Dr. Randy R. Bertin

Randy Bertin has been a leader in independent boarding schools for the past nineteen years, which includes spending the last seven as Head of School at Besant Hill School of Happy Valley, a boarding and day high school in Ojai, California.

Over a seven-year career at Stoneleigh-Burnham School in Greenfield, MA, Randy served in many roles including Certified Athletic Trainer, Residential Faculty, Teacher, Coach, Dean, Director of Athletics, and Development Officer. Before becoming Head of School at Besant Hill, Randy served in multiple leadership positions there including Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, Director of Advancement, and Assistant Head for Advancement. He also served as the school’s varsity basketball coach from 2007-2011, earning CIF-SS Division V coach of the year in 2010. During his tenure as Head of School, Randy has been recognized for his leadership in the areas of International Fundraising, and school leadership and has presented a number of times on these topics.

Randy has been named the 13th Head of School at Cushing Academy in Ashbunrham, Massachuseets and will begin that role in the summer of 2018.

Dr. Randy Bertin was honored with the Council for Advancement & Support of Education’s (CASE) 2017 Chief Executive Officer Leadership Award at its annual conference in San Diego, CA. For only the second time in the last fifteen years, a secondary school head has been given this extraordinary award for institutional leadership. Bertin joins the company of former recipients including Robert J. Birgeneau, Chancellor, University of California, Berkeley and Janet L. Holmgren – President, Mills College, Oakland, CA among others.

In addition to his interests in fundraising and leadership, other topics have included the Head of School’s Role in the Admissions Process, Integration and Immersion of International Students at Boarding Schools in the United States, and Perceptions of Independent School Leaders in California: Global Issues.

 

2017 CASE CEO Leadership Award
